2 Days – Angkor Wat, Kampong Khleang fishing village & Beng Mealea Tour
Overview
Day 1
On the first day of this tour, you’ll see the best that the Angkor Archaeological Park has to offer. We’ll start the tour with a visit to Angkor Wat, the reason why most people come to visit Siem Reap. Angkor Wat is the largest temple built during the Khmer empire, 900 years ago.
After that, we will visit Taprohm, so-called the Tomb Raider temple.
Finally, we will visit the majestic Bayon temple. This temple has remnants of Hindu inscriptions as well as both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhist inscriptions. It’s a fascinating temple and usually a favorite of most visitors. We’ll spend a few hours exploring all the nooks and crannies of this amazing temple.
Day 2
You will start to visit Kampong Khleang which is one of the four floating villages located on the Tonle Sap in Siem Reap province. Here you can see how people have built their homes on top of the water. Houses sit on tall stilts and in the dry season, some homes can be as high as 15m. In the rainy season, you will see homes, schools, markets, and even a clinic all sitting on top of the water.
We’ll also see Beng Mealea which was once a temple located on an ancient highway that connected the main temples of Angkor to Preah Khan (Kampong Svay). Nowadays, you’ll see some stunning ruins which were designed to look similar as Angkor Wat. Beng Mealea is a large temple but still dwarfs in size when compared to the world-famous Angkor Wat.
